JetBlue Airways stands as a prominent figure in the US airline market. Recently awarded as Best Economy Class Winner in the US, JetBlue is well-known for its distinctive blend of affordability and exceptional service.

With affable staff and transparent pricing, JetBlue appeals to budget-conscious travellers seeking a premium experience, given that they’re well aware of JetBlue's carry-on size. JetBlue remains one of the top choices for passengers travelling either within the United States or internationally.

JetBlue Carry-on Size: A Comprehensive Overview

For any wise travellers who prioritise staying on a budget, making sure they have the right cabin bag is the first step to take when planning their trips. JetBlue Airways ensures a hassle-free travel experience with a transparent and well-defined JetBlue Carry-on Size Policy.

JetBlue Carry-On Size and Weight Policy

  • The maximum dimensions for the carry-on bag, including handles and wheels, are 22 x 14 x 9 inches (56 cm x 36 cm x 23 cm).
  • The size restriction for the under seat bag is 17 x 13 x 8 inches (43.2 x 33 x 20.32 cm).
  • Currently, JetBlue does not have a limit on the carry-on weight, which is wonderful news for any traveller.

Passengers with Blue, Blue Extra, Blue Plus and Mint fares are permitted one carry-on bag and one personal item (it can be a purse, backpack, briefcase, etc.).

Those who opt-in for the Blue Basic Fare can only bring one personal item that fits under the seat in front of you, so make sure you carefully check the fare you choose.

And even though there is no weight requirement, packing light can still make your trip a lot easier, especially when placing the bag in the overhead bin while there’s no assistance available. What is left is for you to pay attention to not carrying any prohibited items onboard.

Notes About JetBlue Cabin Luggage Rules

Be mindful of the fare you decide to go for. As previously mentioned, Blue Basic does not allow carry-on bags that can be stored in the overhead bin, so going for a higher fare can ultimately save you money on the luggage fee.

With all of the transparent information available on JetBlue's official website, passengers can easily plan out their belongings. With JetBlue Airline, passengers don’t have to worry about weight limitation, so all that’s left is having the correct cabin bag size.

Investing in a suitable cabin bag, not just for your flight with JetBlue, but all of your flights, will go through the check-in process for any airline smoothly.

JetBlue Checked Baggage Allowance

It can easily be found in JetBlue’s policy for checked baggage allowances and fees on their website; travellers can easily do their research before they hop on the plane.

JetBlue’s Checked Baggage Size and Weight Restrictions

The standard allowance for most JetBlue passengers typically includes one checked bag. The maximum dimensions should not exceed a total dimension (length + width + height) of 62 inches (157 cm), and the maximum weight is generally 50 pounds (23 kg). Anything overall this requirement will be applied with overweight fees.

Oversized and Overweight Fees

  • JetBlue may charge additional fees for bags exceeding the weight limit, typically beyond the 50-pound (23 kg) threshold.
  • Bags surpassing the standard dimensions (62 inches or 157 cm) are considered oversized.
  • JetBlue usually imposes fees (about $150 per bag) for oversized/overweight baggage in addition to any applicable checked bag fees.

JetBlue Checked Baggage Fees

JetBlue typically offers passengers a variety of fare options, each with its own specific checked baggage allowance. For the sake of your time, we will briefly summarise all you need to know about their requirements.

For both domestic and international flights, travellers would go through some similar processes, including check-in, baggage check, and some differences in the check-in time.

Online Check-In (24 hours before departure)

Both domestic and international flyers can conveniently do online check-in, either via their website, or their mobile app. Layout all of the booking details to prepare for this process. The interface is very easy to navigate through, so this should keep your flying experience hassle-free.

With online check-in, you can pre-select your preferred seats, and other options like meals chosen or any other special needs you may have. They also offer mobile boarding passes, which is one of the eco-friendly initiatives that they take to preserve the environment.

Airport Kiosks (4-6 hours before departure)

If online check-in is not your thing, you can take advantage of the convenient self-service kiosks offered by JetBlue that can be easily found near Jetblue check-in counters. With a self-check-in kiosk, you can easily check in your flight, providing some level of convenience as online check-in.

Unlike online check-in, you can only check in at the Kiosks 6 hours before the flight (and 4 hours if you’re departing from San Juan, Puerto Rico), so keep this in mind when planning your airport arrival time.

Check-In Counters

If you find both of the options hard to follow, there’s always a traditional check-in method to follow. With the help of JetBlue staff at check-in counters, there should be no mistakes in your check-in process. However, you might find a long queue for these counters. So unless you’re not in a huge rush, this should still be a pleasant experience.

Attentions for International Flyers

If you’re on an international trip, it’s compulsory to go through customs and immigration. So be sure all of the necessary documents are ready on hand.

It’s also advised to arrive at the airport at least 2-3 hours before your flight, as it would take more time for you to both register your checked baggage and to do all necessary procedures.

FAQ

1. Is JetBlue strict with carry-on size?

JetBlue, like many other airlines, generally follows carry-on size restrictions to ensure efficient boarding and a comfortable in-flight experience. Passengers should follow the specified dimensions, typically 22 inches x 14 inches x 9 inches (56 cm x 36 cm x 23 cm) for the standard carry-on bag, including handles and wheels.

However, as mentioned above, JetBlue doesn’t take into account carry-on weight, so there’s still lots of room for flexibility. While individual experiences may vary, compliance with these dimensions will avoid any potential issues during the boarding process and ensure a pleasant travel experience, not just with JetBlue but with any other airline.

2. How do I add a carry-on to JetBlue?

Most JetBlue Fare offers one carry-on bag and one personal item that can be placed underneath your front seat. Basic Blue is the only fee that does not allow any carry-on bag.

So, if you are a Basic Blue traveller and you bring a carry-on, you will have to get it checked, and the fee for it is $65 if it’s your 1st or 2nd bag or $180 if it’s your 3rd checked bag.

And in the case of adding checked luggage when booking your flight, it is usually a straightforward process. When you book your flight, you'll have the option to select your baggage preferences, including whether you want to add a checked bag or not.

H3. 3. What Is Not Allowed In Jetblue’s Carry-On Bag?

JetBlue, like most airlines, has restrictions on certain items in carry-on bags to ensure the safety and security of all passengers. We’ve covered all of this in another article, but overall, it would include the following:

  • Sharp Objects: Items such as knives, scissors, and razor blades are generally not allowed in carry-on bags.
  • Sporting Goods: Items like baseball bats, golf clubs, and martial arts equipment may be restricted.
  • Tools: Tools that could be used as weapons, such as drills and saws, are usually prohibited.
  • Self-Defence Items: Items like pepper spray and tasers are generally not allowed.
  • Liquids: Containers with liquids over 100ml are not allowed unless placed in a clear, resealable plastic bag. TSA has provided a clear guideline on liquid on planes, which is extremely useful for your future trips.
  • Flammable Items: Certain flammable substances, including fuels and gas torches, are typically restricted.
  • Explosives and Fireworks: Items that could pose a threat, such as fireworks and explosives, are not allowed.

Wish you a smooth and enjoyable journey with JetBlue!

Understanding and following the JetBlue carry-on size, as well as checked baggage guidelines, is an initial must-have step for your free-hassle travel trips. We hope this article will keep you on budget, and stay out of any unwanted trouble when flying with JetBlue. If you find this piece of content useful, don’t keep it to yourself. Share it with your fellow travellers, and good luck on your next adventure!

There should be a rule that no one can put their carry on in the spot above the seat one buys. Nothing pisses me off more than paying extra to sit in the front of the plane, only to find that someone that is sitting in the back of the plane has been allowed to put their carry on in the compartment above my seat! I have to go to the back of the plane to get MY carry on! If I’m paying extra to sit in the front of the plane that’s where I want my carry-on to be. Come on JetBlue, let’s make some realistic rules.
