Nashville is the heart of country music – and even if you’re not a big fan of the genre, you’re still in for a great time here. It’s hard to beat Nashville as the best place to visit among US cities.
You can spend the whole day in Nashville for around $180, including a mid-range hotel, decent meals, and shared transport to keep costs low.
Broadway is a bit touristy and crazy, but that's the appeal. There is live music to enjoy for no charge along the "Honky Tonk Highway" of Lower Broadway. Cocktails start at around $10 and meals at $25. Most bars and restaurants open until 2-3 pm. Be sure to visit the Country Music Hall of Fame – only $30 for three hours and well worth it if you love music history.
2. Chicago, Illinois

If you want city weekend getaways under $300 but love something less hectic than New York, then Chicago is a great suggestion. The city is also a haven for family-friendly adventures.
It's amazing during the summer, but early fall runs a very close second. Particularly if you want a chilled drink in a roof bar without the massive crowds.
Be sure to put Lincoln Park Zoo and Lincoln Park Conservatory on your list. Both are free and close to each other. The museums are great, too, and they are the best in the US. Remember to buy city passes so you can stretch your dollars further.
Airbnb rates start around $75 a night. And you can stuff a deep-dish pizza and some tasty street food for a whopping $80 total. Instead of the more expensive cruise, opt for water taxis for sightseeing on a budget.
3. Asheville, North Carolina

Whenever craving some fresh mountain air and a touch of artsy vibes, Asheville is always a hit.
A drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway is a must – the view is stunning around each bend. Back in downtown Asheville, you'll have plenty of adorable little galleries to walk through (no cover charge necessary). And you may even hear some live acoustic music right down the corner.
End the day snuggled up in a snug mountain cabin in Black Mountain or Weaverville (about $120–150 per night). And don't skimp on the self-indulgence – whether it's indulgent tacos or sumptuous Southern comfort food, regional favourites like Tupelo Honey have got it covered.

This quaint fishing town is famous for its welcoming art galleries and seafood restaurants. Visit the Maine Art Gallery and Studio, where you can see plenty of breathtaking works of art, from sculptures to paintings, that you may never have imagined. Then walk on over to nearby Cape Porpoise and discover lovely beachside restaurants dishing out fantastic clam chowder and lobster rolls.

Okay, we challenge you to visit here for a weekend and not see a festival or a parade! This city doesn’t know how to stay quiet, and that’s exactly the charm.

So, you will spend about $190 per day. This includes $40 for food, $45 for the famous tram tour, and a bit more for taxis back and forth.

And if you’re into live entertainment, you’ll love what’s on offer. Branson is packed with theatres running along the main strip, offering all sorts – from fun, cheesy comedy shows to music and variety acts.
